Acted as counsel for Maybank Investment Bank as principal adviser, lead arranger and lead manager in connection with the establishment of a medium-term notes programme of up to RM800 million ($172 million) for the issuance of subordinated medium-terms notes that are intended to qualify as Tier 2 Capital of Malaysian Reinsurance for the purpose of the Malaysian capital adequacy regulations as approved by Bank Negara Malaysia.

Acted as counsel for Gamuda and Lingkaran Trans Kota Holdings in their disposal of four major Klang Valley highways, namely the Shah Alam Expressway, the Sprint Expressway, the Smart Tunnel and the Damansara-Puchong Expressway through their respective highway concession holding companies to Amanat Lebuhraya, a special-purpose vehicle specifically mandated by Government of Malaysia to acquire the highways. This first-of-its-kind deal was economically unique. Global economic conditions after the pandemic meant completing the sale funded by ALR’s sukuk (Islamic bond) issue depended heavily on central bank rates. Unlike previous deals, this one constantly faced the threat of rising interest rates because of the pandemic, with parties racing to complete the sale before the next rate hike.
