Overview

CHP Law is a full-service firm with ties to CNPLaw, its senior consultant being Colin Ng. The team has particular strengths in regulatory compliance, investment funds, intellectual property, real estate and dispute resolution. Its team is highly experienced in handling complex, high-stakes matters that often cut across multiple jurisdictions and legal disciplines. The firm boasts a solid track record at handling multi-jurisdictional, complex legal challenges that often sit at the intersection of technology, finance and regulatory compliance. The TMT group has demonstrated its know-how in emerging sectors like Web3, digital assets and innovative financial structures.

One of the firm’s standout capabilities is its deep expertise in regulatory law, especially within the financial services sector. The team has successfully guided clients through intricate licensing processes, capital requirements, and ongoing regulatory challenges. The firm has a proven track record of advising capital markets licensees, cryptocurrency players, and fund managers, demonstrating a thorough understanding of Singapore’s regulatory landscape as well as foreign jurisdictions like the Cayman Islands.

The investment funds practice is another notably robust group that routinely works with clients on fund formation and structuring, including ventures into variable capital companies (VCCs) and segregated portfolio companies. The firm supports venture capital funds investing in technology startups in Asia and has experience working with family offices on bespoke fund structures tailored to high-net-worth individuals.

The firm’s IP practice is unique, with a strategic approach to IP beyond traditional patent and trademark registrations. The firm offers IP strategy consulting that helps clients leverage their intangible assets to transform and diversify their business models. The IP team has worked with major corporations in the energy and technology sectors to devise IP strategies that support structural shifts away from traditional operations. This forward-thinking approach positions them uniquely as advisers who connect legal IP considerations to broader business goals, including brand valuation and innovation ecosystems.

Dispute resolution is another core strength, with the team adept at managing a broad spectrum of contentious matters, from high-profile corporate disputes to cross-border insolvency cases. CHP Law has handled landmark litigation involving cryptocurrency insolvencies, hostile takeovers of hospitality assets, shareholder oppression claims, and professional negligence.

Their clients range from founders of distressed tech companies to family offices and multinational corporations. The firm is also trusted for representing individuals in complex commercial disputes and criminal cases, achieving notable outcomes such as full acquittals in difficult trials.

In real estate, CHP Law is known for handling sophisticated transactions involving state land and high-value residential and commercial properties. The firm has managed complex lease structures for government-linked entities like the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore, including ground-breaking arrangements for airport land leases involving strata lots. They also work on high-value residential transactions involving stamp duty optimisation and creative property structuring, reflecting an ability to navigate both regulatory constraints and client commercial objectives effectively.

The firm is helmed by managing partner Christopher Huang and includes seven senior lawyers, including funds and FSR specialist Ian Phung, IP and intangible assets expert Dixon Soh, real estate specialist Tan Ching Chern, dispute resolution partner Danny Quah and private client expert Kannan Nadarajan
