Biography

Miho Niunoya is a Senior Partner at Atsumi & Sakai; she has more than 20 years’ experience advising on PFI/PPP and construction projects in the infrastructure and energy sectors and is recognised by independent commentators as a leading practitioner in the fields. She has also been actively assuming public roles such as serving as a member of expert committees and audit committees of national and local government authorities.

Overview of the firm’s Diversity Programmes

Atsumi & Sakai actively promotes the involvement of female attorneys with over 20% of our partners being women. Our considerable efforts from an early stage to introduce and develop maternity leave and childcare leave, supporting systems to encourage women to return to work, as well as a policy to prevent sexual and power harassment, have led to the creation of a healthy workplace culture where employees can work with peace of mind regardless of gender.

Recognizing this, in 2015 the firm received the Family Friendly Award from the Daini Tokyo Bar Association and has been named as an Employer of Choice (one of Asia’s best law firms to work for) in Japan by Asian Legal Business (ALB) eight times. Furthermore, one of our female partners won the Woman Lawyer of the Year award from Asian Legal Business (ALB) in 2017. Ms. Miho Niunoya was recognized as one of Asia’s Top 15 Female Lawyers for 2021 in ALB’s award for her work and expertise.
