Barend is regularly appointed as a bankruptcy trustee by the Dutch courts. Furthermore he regurarly advises financial instutions on various topcis and acts as trusted counsel for companies in distress.

• Assited Cerberus in the run off of the €400 million non performing loan portfolio that Cerberus took over from Van Lanschot Bank
• Was appointed as bankruptcy trustee of Atlantic Marine Services and in that capacity involved in cross border litigation against Maersk for a claim amounting to €25 million and cross border litigation against PEMEX for a claim amount to US$ 350 million
• Advised the shareholder of Mapper Lithography in the bankruptcy of said company, resulting in a deal with the stoke listed company ASML worth in total €75 million
• Advised a company regarding the consequences of a potential insolvency situation of Dutch companies. The total price for the project amounted to € 150 million.
