One of last month's highest-profile moves saw KING & SPALDING expand its investment management and securities practice with the addition of Matthew Bromberg. The former senior managing counsel and managing director of the Global Fund Services Group at The Bank of New York Mellon brings to the firm an almost unrivalled knowledge of the exchange-traded fund (ETF) market and of some of its most exciting ETF products. Bromberg has also represented registered investment companies and business development companies in general corporate transactions and regulatory and compliance matters. Another transition from in-house to private practice saw Edward Nadel leave his position as general counsel and chief compliance officer at Star Mountain Capital to become a senior counsel at LOWENSTEIN SANDLER in New York. Prior to his six months at the private equity shop, Nadel had spent most of his career at Credit Suisse, most recently as the bank's director of alternative investments. He is an expert on the structuring and formation of hedge funds, mutual funds, private equity funds, and funds of funds.

In Philadelphia, MCCARTER & ENGLISH welcomed partner Laura Anne Corsell from Montgomery McCracken Walker & Rhoads. Corsell draws upon her vast knowledge of investment company and advisers laws to advise clients on the formation of registered funds and alternative investment vehicles. McCarter also gained special counsel Don Felice from the same firm.

In Washington DC, MORRISON & FOERSTER gained the talents of capital markets lawyers John Good and Justin Salon who join the firm as partners from Bass Berry & Sims. Good has acted as underwriters' or issuer's counsel on 15 initial public offerings (IPO) and has also carried out high-profile M&A deals, such as National Commerce Financial Corporation's $7 billion merger with SunTrust Banks.

In Boston, real-estate finance partners Douglas Banghart, Jeffrey Gaulin, and John Kelley moved from Holland & Knight to JONES DAY. In New York, DAVIS POLK & WARDWELL lured Brian Lichter from Fried Frank Harris Shriver & Jacobson. Lichter has represented real-estate investment trusts and real-estate owners and developers in mergers, sales, joint ventures, project financings, and restructurings.

Weil Gotshal & Manges' Texas office departures continued from September into October, notably with M&A and private equity lawyer R Jay Tabor's move to the Dallas office of GIBSON DUNN & CRUTCHER. Tabor, who joined his new firm as a partner, has handled some of the highest-level M&A deals in recent memory, including representing Kinder Morgan in its $38 billion acquisition of El Paso Corporation. He also advised Kinder Morgan on its $2.9 billion IPO in February 2011.
