IFLR will announce the winners of its Asia Awards 2012 at an awards ceremony to be held at Hong Kong’s Island Shangri-La hotel this Thursday.

Speaking at the event will be Hong Kong corporate governance advocate David Webb and Australian Prudential Regulation Authority chairman John Laker.

Webb, a long-standing proponent of improved non-profit governance in Hong Kong, will reveal the deals that grabbed his attention last year and why. He will also outline the improvements he believes to be vital for the long-term survival of the city’s corporations.

Laker meanwhile will offer his thoughts on the European sovereign debt crisis, its impact on the region and what the Asian legal profession can do to ensure prudent risk management.

Other attendees include in house counsel from Goldman Sachs, Hutchinson Whampoa, Morgan Stanley, Credit Suisse, Baring Private Equity Partners Asia, Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Deutsche Bank and HSBC as well as partners and senior associates from Clifford Chance, Latham & Watkins, Linklaters, Allen & Overy, Davis Polk & Wardwell, Herbert Smith, King & Wood, Mallesons Stephen Jaques, Weil Gotshal and Freshfields, among others.

Following months of extensive market-wide research, winners have been selected for their innovation, novelty and complexity, whether structural or regulatory, across seven practice areas, eleven team categories, five firm categories and three individual awards.
