What's next for Myanmar's telco sector

  • Qatar telecommunications company Ooredoo signed an agreement with a consortium led by Digicel to develop telecommunications towers across the frontier;
  • This marks the country’s first tower leasing transaction ;
  • This is an important step in developing the infrastructure necessary for the rollout of mobile networks in Myanmar;
  • An agreement between the two companies to share infrastructure will be key to the quick rollout of mobile systems.
  • Otherwise, both must develop their own greenfield telecommunications network infrastructure.


In December Qatar telecommunications company Ooredoo announced it signed an agreement with a consortium led by Digicel to develop telecommunications towers in Myanmar. This is an important step for Myanmar infrastructure.
