Brazilian oil company Petroleo Brasileiro, known as Petrobras,
has completed the country's largest ever international equity
issue. The deal, one of the biggest ever stock sales in Latin
America, was a coup for Mattos Filho, Veiga Filho, Marrey Jr,
Moherdaui e Quiroga Advogados, the only national firm involved in
the deal.
In August the Brazilian government sold 14.13 % of its stake in
the state-owned company for $4.04 billion. "I have to confess we
were pretty exhausted when we closed the deal," says Sergio
Spinelli, head of Mattos Filho's team, which acted as Brazilian
counsel to the lead underwriters, ABN Amro Rothschild and Merrill
Lynch.
