John Sommer Schmidt is a partner and heads Gorrissen Federspiel’s Insolvency group. His area of practice covers all aspects of distressed companies, such as restructuring, including voluntary debt arrangements, and winding-up. He has extensive experience in all aspects of Danish bankruptcy and restructuring law, and he acts as restructuring administrator, bankruptcy trustee and liquidator. John Sommer Schmidt is also official liquidator/trustee with the Bankruptcy Court in Aarhus.
In addition, John Sommer Schmidt advises clients on the establishment, securing and enforcement of all kinds of creditors’ rights and he is engaged in litigation both with and without relation to insolvency law.
- Appointed trustee in OW Bunker A/S and all Danish group companies, including the oil tanker company OW Tankers A/S. OW Bunker A/S was listed at NASDAQ OMX Copenhagen and was the ultimate parent company in the OW Bunker Group, which included 56 companies worldwide. OW Bunker was the world’s leading global marine fuel company with operations in 29 countries. As of the bankruptcy date the Group had 7% of the world market for bunker/ship fuel and an annually revenue of approx. $17 billion;
- Assisted TORM A/S in connection with its restructuring, refinancing of its existing $1.8 billion debts and issue of new shares. TORM A/S is a major Danish shipping company listed at NASDAQ OMX Copenhagen;
- Appointed restructuring administrator and subsequently trustee of the Scan Energy Group. The group had an asset base of approx. EUR 1 billion and was developing, owning and operating wind and solar energy parks in Germany, Spain, France and Poland.
