The Tanzanian team consists of fifteen lawyers in an office in Dar es Salaam. The firm advises on deals across a wide scope of industries.  It engages in transactions within the banking, capital markets, M&A, private equity, project development, and restructuring and insolvency (R&I) practice areas. The firm has experience in advising on domestic law as well as foreign, such as English, Kenyan, South African and Zanzibari.

Highlights

Bowmans advised Maurel & Prom S.A. (M&P) in relation to the acquisition of Wentworth Resources Plc in accordance with the UK Takeover Code and implemented by means of a scheme of arrangement pursuant to Article 125 of the Jersey Companies Law, resulting in M&P acquiring direct and indirect interest in Mnazi Bay. The team acted as local counsel and reviewed transaction documents from a Tanzanian law perspective, advised M&P on the local law requirements, and obtained regulatory approvals, including from the Fair Competition Commission and the Minister of Energy. The transaction closed in February 2024 and was led by Wilbert Kapinga.

The firm also advised Perseus in relation to its acquisition of shares in ASX listed OreCorp Limited by way of Australian off-market take-over bid. The team acted as local counsel and introduced the client to the Government of Tanzania and led the negotiations on the fiscal terms of the deal. The deal closed in April 2024 and was led by Michael Strain.

Partner Ryan Kitcat left the Corporate M&A team at the end of secondment in March 2025.
