Former Allen & Overy partner Allen Paul is set to join Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP) in London as a senior consultant.

The M&A specialist , who retired from the Allen & Overy partnership last year (November 2012) will join BLP to help build the profile of its corporate team. His hire follows that of ex-Linklaters man David Barnes who joined the firm earlier in the year (February 2012).

Paul is one of the highest profile names in the city and in his time at A&O he sat on the UK Takeover Panel's Rules Committee. He was also the firm's relationship partner with Macquarie and advised the company on numerous issues including its £8 billion bid for Thames Water.

John Bennett, the head of BLP's corporate practice, said of the move: “The upward momentum of our corporate practice remains a strategic priority for the firm. Alan’s a very welcome addition to the team given the strength and depth of his M&A experience, particularly at the higher end, and his almost unrivalled involvement in public takeover situations.”

Paul himself commented: “There are exciting developments taking place at BLP as they balance investment in their homegrown team with external recruitment. I look forward to being able to make my contribution to the firm’s ambitious plans for its international corporate practice.”
