Exclusive interview with the EU's blockchain head

Following IFLR’s interviews with the heads of unit for capital markets and banking regulation, our latest interview is with the head of unit for blockchain and co-chair of the fintech taskforce, Pēteris Zilgalvis, who discussed digital innovation in the trading bloc and what it means for the financial services

Currently, what do you spend most of your time working on?

As part of the fintech action plan, a lot of time is taken up helping to coordinate the fintech labs used by member state regulators. This includes the use of specific technologies such as artificial intelligence like robo-advice, cloud management and cybersecurity. In addition, the Task Force and DG FISMA are preparing  a fintech strategy, including a digital assets consultation which closes on 19 March.
