Firms urged to be proactive on cyber

Regulators and security agencies are urging businesses to take a less reactive and more proactive approach to cybersecurity risks, as more high profile cases come to light almost by the day.

Steve Purser, head of core operations at the EU Agency for Network and Information Security, said that there’s too much emphasis on the response stage of attack and not enough on preparedness and prevention.

"What I don’t agree with is that we should share more information. We live in an era of data pollution – we should share less and only the right information," he said. "Once you have this information about why something happened, it’s only useful if you can use it to improve how you work. I don’t agree with the assumption that the data we collect helps us to predict things."
