The world should be watching China’s green bond experiment

It's apt that green bonds originated in Sweden. An instrument that promotes climate-friendly investments by limiting the use of proceeds, and involves strict monitoring and reporting requirements – while having no immediate financial benefits over and above an ordinary corporate bond – could only be devised in a country that isn't battling more pressing, short-term issues. The Scandinavian utopia may be an inaccurate stereotype, but financial instability, poverty and geopolitical tensions are relatively low on its national agenda.
