Changes to Cayman Islands’ laws could help boost Indonesia’s growing private equity sector

Private equity has faced its challenges in recent years. Yet despite the waves of international regulatory initiatives, most notably the US Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act and EU's Alternative Investment Fund Managers Directive, and difficulties arising from the economic downturn, the global industry remains in buoyant shape. This is evidenced by the recent succession of significant fundraisings from the world's leading private equity houses. Following Indonesia's legislative and presidential elections over summer, and with a new government to be seated in October, the global private equity industry is resetting its sights on this corner of Southeast Asia.

While Indonesia's private equity market is maturing, it benefits from the backdrop of a seemingly stable new government regime to be in place. As such, industry participants anticipate many meaningful capital raising and investment opportunities in the near future....
