Myanmar’s government is to completely
overhaul its Special Economic Zone (SEZ) Law less than four
months after the new law became effective.
The Myanmar State Peace and Development Council
promulgated a Special Economic Zone Law on January 27 which
included 12 chapters covering formation of the central body,
special investor privileges, land use, bank and finance
management and insurance business.
The new law marked the first foreign investment focused law
introduced in Myanmar since the country’s 1988
foreign investment law. It aimed to increase international
investment into Myanmar’s six Special Economic
