Biography

Julie Murphy-O’Connor specialises in commercial litigation and insolvency. She is co-head of the Commercial Litigation Group at Matheson.  Her practice encompasses cross border disputes, multi-party litigation, financial services disputes, corporate restructuring and insolvency, company and shareholder disputes, commercial contract disputes and contentious regulatory matters. She is also an accredited mediator.

Recent transactional highlights

Julie’s recent work includes representing a domestic pillar bank in connection with a coverage dispute against its insurers in respect of over $600m fraud of an employee trader in a US subsidiary arising under the fidelity section of a bankers blanket bond policy; representing various Opel entities in relation to the defence of complex, high-value, multi-party litigation arising from an extensive fire in Douglas Village Shopping Centre carpark and in the joint investigation process which involves over 25 independent expert witnesses representing an extensive number of parties;  representing a media organisation in relation to multiple civil claims arising from a corporate investigation by the Office of the Director of Corporate Enforcement followed by the appointment of  High Court Inspectors to investigate certain matters including a data interrogation that took place in 2014; representing the minority shareholder and CEO of an Irish cinema group in a shareholder dispute and commercial court proceedings and advising KPMG as receiver and Goldman Sachs as lender in connection with the recent sale of Aut Even private Hospital to UPMC.
