Deepak Sadasivan, Managing Partner of Adnan Sundra & Low, is highly ranked in a number of legal publications, including Asialaw Profiles Leading Lawyers 2016, Chambers Asia-Pacific Global and Asia-Pacific Guides 2016 respectively in the areas of Banking & Finance and Islamic Finance in Malaysia.

Deepak is particularly experienced in advising, structuring and documenting Islamic financing transactions which include the world’s first exchangeable Sukuk (also the largest ever exchangeable issuance in Malaysia); the first Islamic stapled securities transaction in Malaysia; the first municipal bonds in Malaysia (also the first bonds to employ a parallel Mudharabah Islamic structure) and advising on template documentation for an Islamic Derivatives Master Agreement. He also advised on several significant and award-winning transactions in 2015, including the first ever 30-year sovereign sukuk issuance and the first ever issuance utilizing rights to transportation services as an asset class.

Deepak is also extensively involved in project finance work and has advised on the financing of several significant infrastructure and energy projects in Malaysia, including Malaysia’s water supply privatisation, coal fired power plants and expressway development. He received the Managing Partner of the Year Award at the ALB Malaysia Law Awards 2016 in recognition for his leadership of the firm.

Recent transactional highlights
  • Advising the Government of Malaysia and Malaysian Sovereign Sukuk Berhad (acting as a financing vehicle for the Government of Malaysia), on Malaysia’s international Sukuk of US$1.5 billion. It was the first 30-year sovereign sukuk issued, and the first deal where rights to transportation services were used as the underlying asset class.
