EY Law has strengthened its practice in the Dominican Republic with the hire of the team from Proxies Leyes & Negocio, a Dominican Republic corporate firm. The team includes partner Thania Gómez and lawyers Julio Muñoz, Elizabeth Almonte, Jassiel Peguero and José Ángel Rodríguez.
The team specialises in finance, corporate governance, infrastructure, energy, capital markets, investment funds and real estate, among others.
Gómez pointed to EY’s 2,100 lawyers, presence in over 81 countries and tax, assurance, advisory and transactional services when asked about her decision to join EY Law. “With EY Law we can deliver highly international and professional services for all our clients’ needs from one country in a shorter period of time,” she said.
In an email correspondence with IFLR1000, Gómez discussed her view on the financial and corporate space in the country. “The DR is an economy in constant growth; the Dominican companies are not only improving their business by integrating better process[es] and corporate governance to their structures, but also by organising [themselves] to be able to access alternative financing (i.e. issuing bonds),” she said.
