Michael Best & Friedrich has announced a merger with Colorado firm Modus Law.
Modus was founded in 2007 and operates offices in Colorado cities Broomfield and Boulder.
The merger sees Michael Best add transactional attorneys David Cline, David DiGiacomo, Elizabeth Prendergrast and Modus founder Shawn Stigler, who will serve as managing partner for the Broomfield and Boulder offices.
The Modus transactional team focuses on M&A, financing and corporate formation for clients such as start-ups and privately held businesses.
Referring to rapidly growing Colorado as one of the US' "new hotbeds of entrepreneurship," Modus founder Stigler mentioned that resultant changes to the state's legal market meant that Modus had started to "bump up against bigger firms" that were drawn to the Centennial State's frothing market.
Stigler pointed to those ongoing market changes, as well as a close cultural fit with Michael Best, as the main drivers for the merger. According to Stigler, the combination with Michael Best offers "a lot more horsepower to what we normally do".
With Colorado continuing to expand and attract attention, it seems likely that more such firm news will come from the area in the near future.
