Quisumbing Torres appoints a new head for Capital Markets

Quisumbing Torres announces Alain Charles J. Veloso as the new head of its Capital Markets Practice Group.

Charles is a partner in the firm's Corporate & Commercial Practice Group. He is also a member of the Competition Focus Group. He has 11 years of legal practice, advising several investment banks, funds, and corporations with regard to their transactions in the Philippines, including private and public M&A transactions, debt, and equity capital markets transactions.

Charles has represented various multinational companies engaged in the energy, power generation, infrastructure, mining and natural resources, real estate and construction, pharmaceuticals, retail and distribution, manufacturing, business process outsourcing, information technology and telecommunications, fintech, and advertising industries. He also assists several multinational companies in connection with the set-up, structuring, and maintenance of their Philippine operations, including advising them on legal and regulatory issues, contract review, and negotiation of joint venture agreements with local partners. He also handles the registration of companies with the Philippine SEC, and other government agencies. Charles also handles the review and implementation of stock-based incentives of several multinational corporations with presence in the Philippines. He also handles corporate maintenance for a publicly-listed company, and companies with secondary license from the SEC.

Charles has been cited as a Next Generation Lawyer for Corporate and M&A by Legal 500 for 2017 and 2018.

Charles is currently the head of Quisumbing Torres' Diversity & Inclusion Committee and B-Green Committee. He is leading a team that is set to build awareness and formulate policies and initiatives that will foster an inclusive and supportive workplace.

Charles studied EU Competition Law at the London School of Economics and Political Science in 2017 (highest grade). He obtained his degrees in Bachelor of Laws (class valedictorian/cum laude) and BS Accountancy (class salutatorian/cum laude) from the University of the Philippines. Charles is also a Certified Public Accountant.
