DLA Piper has hired a new infrastructure focused M&A partner from Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer.

Martin Nelson-Jones was the former co-head of the firm's global infrastructure and transport group. He acts on M&A in the energy and infrastructure areas.

His recent work includes advising a consortium on its acquisition of London City Airport; advising Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan and PSP Investments on their acquisition from Banco Santander of interests in an international portfolio of renewable energy and water infrastructure assets; and advising MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company on the $1.9 billion sale of a 35% interest in its terminals division to Global Infrastructure Partners.

The move follows the firm's move into the Irish market last month with the opening of a new office and the addition of David Carthy from William Fry.
