Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom has hired the co-head of Gleiss Lutz's private equity practice in Germany.

Jan Bauer, a Frankfurt partner at the German independent, is one of the leading transactional PE specialists in the country.

Earlier in 2018, Bauer advised General Atlantic on the acquisition of a stake in the media group ProSiebenSat. His other clients include Blackstone, Celanese, Goldman Sachs and Siris Capital.

The hire marks a rare partner loss for Gleiss Lutz, where Bauer had worked for 13 years. He had previously been employed as an overseas foreign associate for Cravath Swaine & Moore, having stints in both its London and New York offices.

Earlier this month Skadden's German team was one of the firms to recieve the Private Equity Deal of the Year at IFLR's regional awards for advising the supervisory board of Stada when the company was bought by Bain Capital Private Equity, and Cinven Partners for $5.6 billion.

Skadden’s recruitment of Bauer continues the recent trend set by Kirkland & Ellis, Latham & Watkins and Sidley Austin, which have all moved to strengthen in private equity in Europe though lateral hires. Another recent notable move by Skadden saw it hire White & Case’s Richard Youle and Katja Butler in London.
