Global firm Mayer Brown JSM has added a new partner in Hong Kong to strengthen its litigation and dispute resolution practice.

Alan Linning joins the firm from Sidley Austin where he focused on financial services regulatory matters, investigations and proceedings, and commercial litigation.

John Hickin, co-leader of Mayer Brown’s litigation and dispute resolution practice said: “As regulatory enforcement and related compliance concerns continue to top our clients’ lists of concerns, Alan’s in-depth knowledge of Hong Kong’s regulatory landscape acquired from his senior roles in the public and private sectors and experience in commercial litigation will significantly enhance the firm’s capabilities in these areas.”

Linning has over 25 years’ experience advising companies facing investigations and defending civil claims and criminal prosecutions brought by various regulatory agencies, such as the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC); the Hong Kong Monetary Authority; and the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.

Prior to his return to private practice, Linning was the managing director and head of Asia regional compliance at an investment bank, and served as the executive director of enforcement and a board member of the SFC.
