Dentons is set to acquire the entire office of DLA Piper in Georgia.

The DLA Tbilisi office is led by IFLR1000 Leading Lawyers Ted Jonas, Otar Kipshidze, Nino Suknidze and Avto Svanidze.

The international firm entered the market in 2005 after merging with a local outfit.

The office will move to Dentons at the beginning of May 2017. The acquisition will mean that the firm has 150 offices globally and over 7,800 staff.

The move follows recent openings in Iran, the Netherlands, Australia and Singapore and Central America.

In a statement DLA said: "The firm has had a successful presence in Tbilisi since merging with a local Georgian law firm in 2005. However, we have since concluded that our respective interests and strategies can be better delivered separately in future."

The firm is currently ranked in Tier 1 in both our law firm ranking tables in the country and is the only international firm - apart from Dechert - active in the Georgian financial and corporate market.

Recent deal highlights for the office include work for TBC Bank Georgia on the €121 million acquisition of Bank Republic (Deal Data record).
