Baker & McKenzie swoops for KWM PE partner in London

US firm latest to take advantage of KWM disruption

Baker & McKenzie has hired a new private equity partner in London from King & Wood Mallesons (KWM).

Will Holder focuses on M&A, fundraising and IPOs within the prvate equity sphere. He will be joined at his new firm by employment partner Carl Richards and five associates.

Holder's recent work incudes advising Universal Music Group on its £1.2 billion acquisition of EMI’s recorded music business; Boparan Holdings on its contested takeover of Northern Foods; and Investcorp Technology Partners on its equity investments into Sophos, TDX Holdings and eviivo.

The move comes just a day after fellow PE partner Simon Witney left KWM for Debevoise & Plimpton.

The firm has also recently lost investment funds partners Michael Halford, Jonathan Pittal and Andrew Wingfield, real estate partners William Naunton, Cornelius Medvei, Bryan Pickup, Ed Page, George Burrha and Jeremy Brooks, M&A partners Clive Jones, Michael Goldberg and David Fitzgerald and private equity funds partners Steven Cowins and Marc Snell.
