Central Asia firm Colibri Law Firm has launched an office in Tehran, becoming only the second large foreign firm with a presence in Iran after US and EU sanctions were eased in January.

The regional firm has established a presence in Tehran through a partnership with domestic firm Gheidi & Associates.

Colibri partner Otabek Suleimanov, who focusses on infrastructure projects and construction, and senior managing associate, Assel Nassimoldina, are relocating to Iran from other offices in the firm's network to jointly lead the new team alongside Nasim Gheidi, who heads the domestic firm at present.

In a statement Colibri said it sees infrastructure, energy, industrials and consumer goods as sectors that should generate opportunities for legal work.

The new office will have the capacity to advise on corporate and commercial contractual, transactional and regulatory work.

CMS was the first large international firm to launch in Tehran, announcing its presence Iran weeks after the sanctions repeal was officially confirmed.
