Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer continues its aggressive expansion in the United States with the hiring of a leveraged finance partner in New York. David Almroth, who previously practiced law at Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom, comes to Freshfields with a broad client base including investment and commercial banks, corporations, investors, sponsors, and hedge funds.
Almroth’s hiring is part of an effort by the United Kingdom-based “Magic Circle” law firm over many months to broaden its stateside offerings. In one recent notable example, in September 2014, Freshfields appointed Mitchell Presser, a former partner at Wachtell Lipton Rosen & Katz and a founding partner of private equity firm Paine & Partners, as head of the firm's M&A practice in the United States. Presser's experience included working on Morgan Stanley's acquisition of oil pipeline and terminal company TransMontaigne in 2006 as well as QVC's bid to acquire Paramount in 1994, in a drawn-out takeover battle in which Viacom's $9.75 billion bid ultimately won out.
Almroth holds a JD from Seton Hall University and a BA from Wheaton College.
