Miami-based global law firm Greenberg Traurig has announced the addition of three shareholders to its Mexico City office, bringing the total number of shareholders there to 13. Fernando Orrantia and Antonio Robles practice real estate law, and come from Mexico-city based Orrantia y Robles, founded in December 2013. José Carlos M. de Uriarte, who was previously with another global law firm, Jones Day, specializes in labor and employment and M&A.
De Uriarte said he will enjoy having a practice that unites work in the labor and employment space with M&A and other transactional work. The opportunity was part of what drew him to Greenberg. “Here I have the chance to more openly go out and do my L&E work alongside M&A,” he said.
In June, Jones Day expanded its Mexico City office with the arrival of several partners from Greenberg. De Uriarte said there is no relation between the partners’ move to Jones Day from Greenberg and his move to Greenberg from Jones Day.
De Uriarte received a JD from Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM) in 1991, a postgraduate degree in foreign trade from ATAM in 1993, an LL.M from Duke University in 1995, and a postgraduate degree in tax law from Universidad Panamericana in 1997. Orrantia earned a law degree from Escuela Libre de Derecho in 1992 and a JD from University of Minnesota Law School in 1995. Robles earned his law degree from Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México in 2005, and, in 2006, received his postgraduate degree at Université Nice Sophia Antipolis.
