As part of the IFLR1000's 2016 research into the Financial and corporate legal markets we seek insight from senior legal practitioners in the market about which law firms they consider to be their closest contemporaries in the different practice areas we cover.

In addition to the feedback gathered through our research interviews we also have an online Ranking feedback survey, links to which can be found below, which allows us to canvass the views of a much wider section of the legal market.

PLEASE NOTE: All information provided to us in this survey is CONFIDENTIAL and is simply used to supplement the information gathered and analysed during the wider Financial and corporate research including transactional examples and statistics and client feedback. We will not publish individual responses or information relating to survey participants.

Structure of the survey

The Ranking feedback survey asks for feedback in four easy steps:

  1. Select a practice area

  2. Name up to ten other law firms who you see as your closest competitors in the selected practice area

  3. Rate each of the named law firms based on your experience and knowledge of them. Firms can be given a rating of 1, 2 or 3, with 1 representing the highest rating

  4. Provide any additional comments or feedback in the box provided

Methodology

Our law firm rankings are based on three key criteria, in addition to the peer feedback gathered through interviews and the Ranking feedback survey we also look at:

Transactional evidence

We ask all firms to provide transactional highlights from their last 12 months of work.

We also analyse statistical evidence of transaction values and volumes provided by market survey title Dealogic.

Client feedback

We speak to a wide range of corporate and in-house contacts as part of our Client feedback survey to get their opinions on the firms and lawyers they use.

We ask for feedback on the following attributes:

  • Technical ability

  • Accessibility and communication

  • Depth of team

  • Value for money

  • Client/lawyer relationship

  • International network
