Bird & Bird has added a new energy partner in Singapore to strengthen its Asia-Pacific energy and utilities group.

Renewable energy specialist Ken Cheung has joined the firm from Berwin Leighton Paisner where he was a strong component of the firm’s corporate team.

Matt Bonass, co-head of the firm’s international energy and utilities group said: “With the recent opening of our Sydney office bringing expertise in the emerging Australian cleantech and renewables market, we view Ken’s arrival as further strengthening our capabilities in the region and expanding our service offering both in Singapore and the ASEAN region.”

Cheung specialises in corporate, commercial and finance legal work in South East Asia, with particular strength in Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines and Myanmar.

His practice also encompasses traditional mining and offshore oil and gas industries. With qualifications in England and Wales, Hong Kong and New South Wales, Cheung advises clients across the transport, insurance, IT and media sectors.

Bird & Bird has over 1100 lawyers across 27 offices in Europe, Middle East and Asia-Pacific.
