Linklaters, a magic circle firm keen on expanding its visibility stateside, has appointed a head of its global US practice.
Scott Bowie, who joined Linklaters from Latham & Watkins in 2005 and become global head of the firm’s investment management group in 2010, takes the helm of the firm’s stateside practice. New York-based Bowie will also serve on the firm’s executive committee.
In a discussion with IFLR1000, Bowie outlined an ambitious plan to ensure that the firm and its lawyers are well-connected with companies and funds across regions.
“You can’t take such a geographically diverse practice and tie it together without having someone be responsible. What’s the role that I can play? By design, one part is to take this very geographically diverse global US practice and think about it in a non-siloed/non-geographically specific fashion. The other part of the role is bringing that thinking, and US-specific experience, to the firm’s Executive Committee, further diversifying an already diverse management body,” Bowie said.
Expanding on the point, Bowie noted that the firm's investment management practice leans heavily toward representing asset managers globally.
“We work across geographies, and across practice areas as a matter of course; everything from corporate, to financial regulatory, to investment management, to finance and beyond. This global approach to the investment management practice is what I’ve been doing my whole career,” Bowie added.
