McGuireWoods, which lured banking and finance partner Kay McNab from competitor Winston & Strawn in Chicago in September 2014, has made another partner-level hire, in the same practice area, from another rival firm.

Penny Zacharias, who previously practiced law at Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney, is now a partner in the Pittsburgh office of McGuireWoods. Zacharias specializes in debt finance, with a particular concentration in acquisition and leveraged financings, and has experience in syndicated loan transactions. Many of the lenders she works with lend to companies in the medical technology and security alarm sectors.

Zacharias joins a busy office that counts PNC Bank among its clients. As McNab told IFLR1000 at the time of her hiring last September, “The lending work is growing very strong right now. We’ve gotten over the humps of the recession and regulatory overlays, so banks are out there looking for transactions.”

In 2014, McGuireWoods advised lead arrangers and bookrunners in 128 deals with a $91.6 billion total value.

Zacharias holds a law degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, a master’s degree in business administration from the same university, and a bachelor’s degree from Cornell University.
