The trend of government attorneys migrating or returning to private practice continues as a lawyer at the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) moves to Crowell & Moring.
Lisa Kimmel, who was previously an attorney advisor on antitrust and competition policy for FTC chair Edith Ramirez, is now senior counsel at Crowell’s office in Washington. Upon joining the FTC in June 2010, Kimmel developed extensive knowledge of the intricacies of competition law as applied to the technology sector. Intellectual property law was a significant component of her practice, and will continue to be in her new role. Kimmel will have responsibility for both civil and criminal antitrust investigations.
Kimmel’s recruitment marks the firm’s second high-level hire from the FTC this year. Peter Miller, former chief privacy officer at the agency, joined Crowell & Moring as senior counsel in January.
“I did work on some matters across from attorneys here when I was at the FTC, and I was very impressed,” Kimmel told IFLR1000.
Kimmel holds a J.D. and a Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley.
