Weil Gotshal & Manges, a firm that has weathered partner defections in recent months, has lost another partner, this time to global competitor Kirkland & Ellis.
Douglas Ryder, who was a member of Weil's M&A practice, has moved over to Kirkland's office in Manhattan. Ryder advises public and private companies, including private equity firms and their portfolio companies, in M&A, financings, and restructurings. His clients include Apollo Global Management, CCMP Capital, Levine Leichtman Capital Partners, and ONCAP Management Partners.
In the spring of 2011, Ryder was one of nine partners who left O'Melveny & Myers within a few weeks. Ryder and private equity lawyer Harvey Eisenberg both found a new home at Weil.
"Doug brings significant experience representing clients [in] complex transactions. . . . He is a leading private equity lawyer," said Jeffrey Hammes, chairman of Kirkland's global management committee.
Ryder holds a J.D. from New York University School of Law and a B.A. from Colgate University.
