Norton Rose Fulbright has hired a new director for its competition practice in Johannesburg.
Mark Griffiths joins the team from Barclays Africa Group where he has been since 2007.
“Mark will add considerable depth and experience to the team's African practice,” said Heather Irvine, head of antitrust and competition in South Africa. “He also has invaluable expertise in banking regulation, particularly relating to the payments system.”
Griffiths has extensive experience across Africa. He advised on the first dawn raid in Zambia under the new competition regime, the first market enquiry in South Africa in the banking sector, the first application of the public interest doctrine in Namibian merger control and two major market investigations in Mauritius.
