McDermott Will & Emery has added a partner, one of counsel, and two associates to its office in the Silicon Valley, a region that increasingly lures lawyers with knowledge of patent, trademark, and intellectual property law.
New partner Fabio Marino will represent the IP interests of high-tech companies in the valley. Marino, who previously spent six years at Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe, is an experienced trial lawyer. Accompanying Marino are Judith Hom, who joins the firm as of counsel, Nitin Gambhir, hired as an associate, and Barrington Dyer, also an associate. All three previously worked with Marino at Orrick. In March, the firm hired S. Michael Song and Dr. Bahnu Sadasivan as partners in the same area.
“Everybody has an office in Silicon Valley who wants to have an IP practice. Not all firms have a strong one, but McDermott has one of the strong ones,” Marino said.
Marino comes to McDermott at a critical juncture, with a large ongoing IP caseload and with two cases set to go to trial in the summer. One of the cases Marino will handle, involving a patent infringement suit brought by networking company Brocade Communications against competitor A10 Networks, is headed for a courtroom in San Jose in July. Another patent infringement case on Marino’s docket, involving information companies CollegeNET and CoreLogic, will go to trial in Texas in August.
