Shearman & Sterling has elected a new senior partner, on the heels of last month's announcement of Rohan S Weerasinghe's move to Citi, and has also named a new global managing partner. Both promotions are effective as of May 4.
Creighton Condon has been at Shearman & Sterling for three decades and is currently co-head of the firm’s global mergers & acquisitions practice. Among the numerous firms Condon has represented in high-profile deals are Citi, Royal Bank of Scotland, Synthes, Georgia Pacific, and Viacom. Condon becomes the 15th senior partner elected since the founding of Shearman & Sterling in 1873. The incoming global managing partner, David Beveridge, who is currently the firm’s Americas Managing Partner, has broad experience in the areas of debt, equity, and security offerings, restructurings, and cross-border transactions.
"Our focus will remain on our clients - providing innovative thinking and continued excellent service. We hear regularly from clients that what separates us is the consistent top-quality service we can provide anywhere in the world," Condon remarked.
Shearman partner Linda E. Rappaport oversaw the firm’s Policy Committee deliberations that led to the election of Condon and Beveridge to their new positions. “My fellow Policy Committee members and I received valuable feedback and insight from our more than 200 partners around the world,” said Rappaport in an official Shearman announcement.
On April 3, Shearman’s former senior partner, Weerasinghe, announced his resignation from the firm. On the same date, Citi announced that Weerasinghe will become Citi’s General Counsel and Corporate Secretary effective June 1. Weerasinghe replaces Michael Helfer, who moves over to a new role as vice chairman of Citi.
