Hunton & Williams has enlarged its commercial real estate group in New York with the hiring of four partners from SNR Denton.
Peter J. Mignone, Brett L. Gross, Donald F. Simone, Mitchell G. Williams worked together at Thacher Proffitt & Wood until the collapse of that firm in 2008. Thacher announced its pending liquidation in December 2008. At the start of 2009, 40 partners from Thacher, including these four, moved to what was then called Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal. Mignone said that the four have now made their move to Hunton partly because of a team-based approach allowing lawyers to support each other’s work.
“We are taking active matters with us – commercial real estate-based transactions, mezzanine lending, preferred equity, credit facilities. One of the deals we have is a multi-state, multi-property transaction,” said Mignone, who characterizes the practice at Hunton as a full-service one for all real estate asset types.
“People think it’s mortgages, but it can be a lot more. It’s a fairly sophisticated practice. We’ve got a pretty good market penetration that dates back to our Thacher Proffitt & Wood days and the platform we had there,” Mignone added.
The hirings bring to 12 the number of attorneys in Hunton’s New York real estate practice, out of a total of more than 50 real estate lawyers nationally.
