Leading South African firm Webber Wentzel, the alliance partner of Linklaters, has recruited projects specialist Andrew van Niekerk from ENSafrica as a director. Van Niekerk had previously helped launch ENS' project procurement department.
The news follows a string of other recent announcements by the firm primarily aimed at bulking up its team for energy and natural resources work, as well as for corporate and commercial, engineering and government regulatory. Van Niekerk focuses on construction, engineering and projects and prior to practising with ENS spent five years in Dubai as a general counsel for Meraas Holding, a real estate development, asset management, investment and event management company, and as a legal consultant for Al Tamimi & Co.
Van Niekerk works across the energy, real estate, infrastructure and mining sectors and notably has deep experience in Independent Power Projects (IPP), Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) and public procurement, advising lenders, developers and contractors. His recruitment marks Webber Wentzel's seventh lateral hire at director level this month.
