Portuguese firm PLMJ has set up a Swiss desk under partner Nuno Cunha Barnabé, who's recent admission to the bar in Vaud allows him to practice as a lawyer in Switzerland. Barnabé is a partner in the firm's private client and tax team.

The move is part of an 'internationalisation' drive the firm has been on since 2010 in order to tap into new markets outside Portugal. This has so far included a push into Brazil, Angola, Mozambique and Macau. It also accompanies increasing activity in the Portuguese private equity market and in a press release the firm said it was now "perfectly placed to provide legal support for the cross-border implementation of [clients'] decisions in the areas of private wealth, private equity, residence, immigration and nationality, corporate restructuring, real estate, arts and sports".

PLMJ currently has a full time secondee to a Swiss client in the canton of Vaud as well as a strong relationship with Swiss client Nestlé, which is situated in Vaud.
