Regulator asks City for terror-trading probe

The City of London's financial institutions have been asked by the UK financial services regulator, the FSA, to see if they have worked on transactions for people linked to last month's attacks on New York and Washington, DC.

London's financial institutions can access a list of alleged suspects posted on the FSA's website (www.fsa.gov.uk), who the regulator says are being investigated by the FBI.

The move comes amid concern that people connected with the attacks on the World Trade Centre and the Pentagon used their knowledge to manipulated the world's financial markets. A spokesman for the FSA would not comment on whether or not the regulator was aware of unusual trading patterns in the run up to September 10. He said: "We have been looking back at trades but this is something that we always do."
