In the final weeks of June, OTTERBOURG announced its hire of banking and finance lawyers Jeffrey Rosenthal and Thomas Duignan as partners in New York. The pair, who are certified public accountants, had been with Troutman Sanders following their departure from Greenberg Traurig in February 2013. Also in New York, KING & SPALDING recruited Drew Chapman as a partner from WilmerHale where he headed up the alternative investment team.
On the other side of the country, GIBSON DUNN & CRUTCHER lured Robert Klyman as a partner in the firm's restructuring and reorganisation practice. Formerly with Latham & Watkins, Klyman will be based in Los Angeles while making frequent forays to New York.
One of the most notable M&A hires was PAUL HASTINGS' addition of David Hernand as a partner in its LA office. Previously with Cooley, Hernand represents media, entertainment and tech clients, as well as private equity and venture capital funds.
One of the highest-profile lateral hires on the capital markets side was ORRICK HERRINGTON & SUTCLIFFE'S addition of Christopher Austin as a partner based in New York and Silicon Valley. Previously with Goodwin Procter, Austin specialises in advising tech companies, including software and medical technology startups.
In Canada, the fiercely competitive Calgary market saw MCCARTHY TETRAULT gain former Dentons lawyer James-Scott Lee as a partner in its financial services group. The city also saw LAWSON LUNDELL gain Gary Rose as a banking and debt finance partner. A former regional managing partner at Fasken Martineau, Rose has has more than two and a half decades experience advising banks in lending transactions.
In Latin America Brazil's SOUZA CESCON lured capital markets specialist Daniel Facó from Machado Meyer Sendacz & Opice. Facó specialises in capital markets and securitisation and banking and structured finance and will lead the equity capital markets team.
In Paraguay FERRERE announced its hire of Guillermo Jover as a partner from White & Case's Miami office. His focus includes bank finance, aircraft leasing and M&A. Finally, in Chile, GUERRERO OLIVOS hired deputy national economic prosecutor Jaime Barahona. He was previously secretary of the antitrust court, since its inception in 2004.
