Akimoto Kawamura

Akimoto is a senior partner of Atsumi & Sakai’s Tokyo head office and a key member of the firm’s cross-border M&A practice team.

He focuses on M&A and other corporate and securities law matters, and with more than 30 years’ practice, he has extensive experience in matters such as domestic and cross-border M&A, private equity, domestic and international joint ventures, and investments into Japan and by Japanese companies overseas. Akimoto also has extensive experience in advising Japanese and non-Japanese clients on corporate, commercial, and securities law, as well as other regulatory aspects of transactions.

Prior to joining the firm, he worked as Japan general counsel for a US-based commercial/investment bank, where he coordinated the overall activities of the Japan legal department.

Akimoto has a bachelor’s degree in law from the University of Tokyo and an LLM from the University of Michigan. He is admitted in Japan and New York.
