Private practice lawyers and in-house counsel gathered at the Kowloon Shangri-La hotel in Hong Kong on September 18 for IFLR's Asia Private Equity Forum.

With the region's private equity industry on the rise, panellists were particularly keen to discuss the legal challenges and strategies to take advantage of this nascent market.

The development of renminbi (RMB) funds was a hot topic, with many speakers facing compliance challenges. Panellists discussed flexible equity strategies in a volatile global equity market, as well as the need to respond to the European Securities and Markets Authority's (Esma's) Alternative Investment Funds Managers (AIFM) Directive consultation paper on third country issues.

Tax was also a strong topic of interest; panellists discussed the importance of tax due diligence and the benefits of Singapore-domiciled funds.
