Biography

Sam has over 40 years of corporate commercial experience. Sam is the preeminent project lawyer in Kenya and has advised the majority of Kenya’s landmark infrastructure work especially within the energy sector. 

Recent transactional highlights
  • Advised on the 100MW Kipeto wind power project in Kenya valued at USD 233,000,000.
  • Advised on the conversion of the Kenya Power and Lighting Company Defined Benefits Scheme to the Defined Contribution involving the closure of the Defined Benefit Scheme to new entrants and establishment of a new Defined Contribution Scheme.
  • Advising Alten Energias Renovables on its USD 45,000,000 development of a photovoltaic cell solar power plant in in Kenya with an installed capacity of 40MW. The project is one of the largest solar power projects in Kenya and East Africa.
  • He provides legal advisory services to pension schemes of a number of insurance companies (including Britam, UAP and Madison), banks (including Barclays, Co-operative, Kenya Commercial and Post Office Savings Bank) and other institutions and companies (including University of Nairobi Pension Scheme, Kenya Pipeline, Kenya Petroleum Refineries, Kenya Airways, Kenya Ports Authority, Unilever Kenya, Oil Libya, Kakuzi, Eastern Produce) and several others.
