Jersey has completely revised the layout of its laws to make them more accessible and user-friendly.
Principal and subordinate legislation, including the Island's sophisticated financial services legislation, are available for the first time in an official consolidated format both in hard copy and online.
The revision, which was undertaken by Jersey's Law Revision Board, has also re-arranged the laws into 26 chapters by topic (including financial services and courts and legal services), renumbered the articles for ease of use, updated cross-references, corrected typographical errors, implemented gender-neutral provisions and removed spent laws. For those familiar with the previous versions of the laws, endnotes also explain the specific changes. Regular future revisions are also proposed.
The revised laws will represent the authentic edition of the laws of Jersey and may be relied upon in court. The streamlined layout and ease of access will be welcomed not only by local practitioners but also by their clients and those globally who wish to access the Island's statutes. The revised laws are published on the website of the Jersey Legal Information Board at www.jerseylegalinfo.je.
