Asia's first covered bond; JP Morgan proves it can raise equity; Honsel undertakes its restructuring

Allen & Overy has advised the UK Debt Management Office on the first syndicated gilt issue of 2009. It raised £6.8 billion ($11.05 billion). Linklaters acted for the managers.

Shearman & Sterling advised the Province of Ontario on its $4 billion offering of bonds. While Shearman advised as US counsel, the Ministry of the Attorney General advised on Canadian law. Davis Polk & Wardwell advised the underwriters in the US while Stikeman Elliot assisted on Canadian law.

Clifford Chance has represented Qatar Telecom (Qtel) on the establishment of its medium-term note programme. Qtel's first issue was $900 million in five-year notes and $600 million in 10-year notes to trade on the London Stock Exchange. The issuer, a wholly owned subsidiary of Qtel, was counselled by Appleby, and Allen & Overy advised a group of dealers....
