Abhinav Surana

Abhinav Surana is senior legal counsel at Tata Sons, the holding company and promoter of over 100 Tata operating companies.

Surana is a corporate lawyer with 11 years of experience in M&A, private equity, venture capital, financial restructuring and general corporate laws. At Juris Corp, he led the M&A and Private Equity Practice. Prior to joining Juris Corp, Surana was a part of the M&A and private equity team at Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas (earlier Amarchand Mangaldas). He started his career with Herbert Smith in London, where he completed his training contract.

Surana has advised on various high-profile M&A (private and public), private equity transactions, financial restructuring, corporate governance issues, exit strategies, board matters and various issues ranging from environmental laws to labour laws.
Surana is admitted to practice law in the United Kingdom (non-practising solicitor) and India. He received a B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) from the National Law University, Jodhpur in 2017.

Attreyi Mukherjee

Attreyi Mukherjee has over 13 years of experience in advising on a range of domestic and cross-border transactions including joint ventures, M&A, private equity and venture capital investments. She also has extensive experience in corporate commercial matters. She worked for one of the big four consultancies and with reputed law firms before joining the Tata Group in 2011.

Presently she is handling the legal portfolio of Tata Industries, the venture arm of Tata, responsible for building new technology based businesses through incubation of new ventures, venture capital investments and joint ventures. Mukherjee advises on transactions involving Tata Industries’ interests around the world, including in Europe and the US, in e-commerce, e-learning, food innovation, health sciences, digital health platform, technology incubator in IoT and solar technology, amongst others. She also supports business operations by advising on technology licensing, aerospace supply contracts, services contracts and compliance with data privacy laws.

Mukherjee also has a deep interest in human rights and gender issues and has co-authored a successful book on the Indian law on prevention of sexual harassment at workplace.

Mahesh Jain

Mahesh Jain holds the position of Regional Tax Head for the Asia Pacific region at E.I. DuPont. He is a lawyer and member of ICAI, having held seventh All India Rank in 1992. He has a diverse and distinguished career spread over 26 years. He holds vast experience in the fields of domestic and international taxation with his association with leaders in the industry. He started his career at Maruti Suzuki India and worked as AGM (Finance) and went on to work with companies such as Bharti Teletech Ltd as Chief Financial Officer and Havells India Limited as Vice-President (Finance)

Kiran Nisar

Since 2011, Kiran Nisar has been working with Maersk (Danish conglomerate having activities in a variety of business sectors, primarily within the transportation and logistics sectors). Earlier, he was head of regional tax of Maersk Line, but is now working as general manager taxation and looking after taxation matters / tax litigation matters of all the AP Moller Maersk entities in India.

He is chartered accountant with over 25 years of experience in consultancy firm, big four, and the like. His other professional stints include various tax role at Standard Chartered Bank, KPMG and PwC.He is also a commerce graduate from Mumbai University, India.

He has presented papers on the technical subjects at various forums, such as CII, WIRC of Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, The Institute of Company Secretaries of India, The Chamber of Tax Consultants, KPMG, and PwC. Nisar has also contributed article/ chapters in various professional journal/ books.

Nipun Mudaliar

Nipun Mudaliar is a transactional lawyer at Deutsche Bank and is based out of its Mumbai office. He has extensive experience of over 10 years across banking, insurance, capital markets, fintech, media, shipping and other sectors. Having worked in South America, Middle East and India, he specialises in a wide range of international finance matters, including global transactional banking, trade finance, cash management, derivatives, capital markets, mergers & acquisitions, corporate finance and securitisation.

Prior to joining Deutsche Bank, Mudaliar was managing the Indian office of Barbuss Global, a multinational firm providing legal, subrogation recovery and other services relating to marine insurance and maritime laws. He has also worked as in-house lawyer with National Insurance Company and Thomson Reuters Group. He is a fellow member of the Insurance Institute of India, and is a visiting faculty for law and management colleges.

Mudaliar holds bachelor of law (LLB) degree from Campus Law Centre, Delhi University, and also a master of Law (LLM) degree in International Commercial Law from University of Northumbria, United Kingdom. He has also completed Post Graduate Diploma in Securities & Banking Laws from Indian Law Institute and Post Graduate Diploma in Business Administration (Finance) from Symbiosis Institute.

Rupen Jhaveri

Rupen Jhaveri joined KKR in 2009 and has been a member of the India investing team since its founding. At KKR, he has led investments in Alliance Tires, Magma Fincorp, Dalmia Cement, Max Financial Services, Emerald Media, SBI Life Insurance, Bharti Infratel and HDFC. Prior to joining KKR, he was with Goldman, Sachs & Co. in its principal investment area and Warburg Pincus in Mumbai where he was involved in a number of investments including Mahindra & Mahindra, NDTV, Amtek Auto, Sigma Electric, Sintex, Dainik Bhaskar, amongst others. Shantanu Makherjee

Shantanu Mukherjee is a dual-qualified corporate lawyer, admitted in New York and India. He graduated from National Law School, Bangalore with a gold medal in Intellectual Property law; and holds an LL.M from Columbia Law School, New York. After being admitted to the New York bar, he worked with Linklaters in New York, White & Case in Singapore and Goodwin Procter in Hong Kong. He returned to India in 2014 as Cipla’s global legal head for M&A. While at Cipla, he advised on transactions worth over USD 2.4 billion, including in the United States, China, South Asia, Africa and the Middle East. Mukherjee is currently the legal head for APAC and Japan at Lupin Ltd., the 7th largest generic pharmaceutical company in the world by revenue.

Tapan Pati

Tapan Pati heads the India legal team of Johnson & Johnson's pharmaceutical business (called Janssen) and is part of the J&J India leadership team.

He has 18 years of experience as a corporate lawyer. This includes eight years working for top tier Indian law firms and 10 years as in-house counsel leading the India legal teams of three large NYSE-listed US-headquartered multinational companies (Yum Brands, Hilton WorldWide, Johnson & Johnson). He is a member of the Intellectual Property Rights Committee of the American Chamber of Commerce in India and is on the editorial board of Practical Legal Guidance, LexisNexis. Pati graduated in the year 2000 from the National Law School, Bangalore. In 2016 he was listed as one of India's top 100 general counsels by the Indian Corporate Counsel Association.

Nidhi Parekh

Nidhi Parekh has ten years of experience in securities markets. She completed her graduation in Business Administration and Law with honors in Corporate Law from National Law University, Jodhpur. She started her career as a capital markets lawyer at Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas (erstwhile Amarchand Mangaldas Suresh A. Shroff & Co.) in 2007 and moved to Citigroup as Senior Vice President after performing the role of Partner Designate at CAM. She has worked on various pioneering transactions including the first and only issuance of Indian Depository Receipts and landmark deals including one of the largest stock exchange sale by the co-founders of a conglomerate in IT space. She has also actively participated in reviewing various regudlatory policies.

Tarun Mathur

He returned to India as the GC of the Telecom Business of Essar Group and the Global head of legal for M&A. Sameer has also worked as the GC of the Cummins group in India before taking up his current position in Bharti Airtel.

Sameer has a total of more than 15 billion dollars of transactions to his experience over the period of his career. He has been involved in cross border M&A also and has been managing mid to large sized Law Departments as part of his role.
