Cleary Gottlieb was the big winner at last night’s 10th IFLR Americas awards, collecting the prestigious Americas firm of the year.

Cleary also received awards for restructuring team of the year, M&A team of the year and debt-equity linked team of the year, at the ceremony held at the Pierre Hotel in New York City.

Mayer Brown’s Jason Kravitt and John Dugan were both honoured with individual awards. Kravitt accepted the outstanding achievement award for his contribution the practices for securities law. Covington & Burling’s Dugan was recognised for his contribution to regulatory reform.

For a second year in row Citigroup received the award for in-house debt team, while Morgan Stanley collected the equity in-house award.

The increasing complexity and innovation in many of the deal categories made for tight competition. Vodafone’s sale of its stake in Verizon wireless received the award for M&A deal of the year. FHIPO, the first mortgage-backed real estate investment trust in Mexico was awarded equity deal of the year.

The ceremony also celebrated the work of national firms across North and South America which have shown tremendous innovation in the practice of local law. In 2015 IFLR added two new national firm categories. BLP took home the new Costa Rican firm of year and Headrick Rizik Alvarez & Fernández received the first Dominican Republic firm of the year award.
